Alexandra Yao will share her commitment to the growing branded residential segment in the Philippines
As the countdown begins to the Property Report Congress Philippines 2016, we will get to know the highly-respected market leaders who will speak at the conference on 7 April at the Fairmont Makati
Alexandra Yao has been with Starwood Hotels and Resorts for eight years, overseeing the company’s branded residential division in the Asia Pacific region, as well as the acquisitions and development process of Starwood.
Originally from New York, Yao has built a successful career in hospitality over the years, having held various positions in Marriott International Hotels and Resorts as well as PwC Hospitality Consulting. Yao holds a Bachelor’s degree from Cornell University’s School of Hotel Administration and Master’s degree from Columbia University specialising in real estate development.
Yao will join forum moderator Cyndy Tan Jarabata, president of TAJARA Leisure & Hospitality Group Inc, at the Property Report Congress Philippines 2016, a high-level conference that will discuss the past, present and future of the country’s booming real estate industry.
Property Report recently caught up with the Singapore-based executive who shared her insights on the growing branded residences market in the Philippines.
How is the Philippines’ real estate industry benefitting from the rise of branded residences segment?
It offers a new and unique real estate product to the market that gives buyers a distinguished lifestyle purchase in addition to a top-notch real estate product. For Starwood, our branded residences are attached to a hotel and therefore we can offer a truly distinctive lifestyle to the buyers by offering them services from the hotel directly to their residences such as room service.
What do you say to commentators who view branded residences as more of a triumph for marketing than a showcase for a developer’s strengths?
Starwood Branded Residences definitely highlight the strengths of the developer. It’s a complex mixed-use development that combines one of our lifestyle hotels with a residential product and this type of development takes skills and vision. The final product showcases the developer’s strength and vision by offering a new unique real estate product above all others.
How can the branded residences segment grow further in the next four years?
I think it will grow further by offering different types of brands to reach different market segments. Additionally, the branded residential market can expand its footprint in the Philippines to all major city and resort locations. The Philippines has huge opportunities for further branded residential growth.
Organised by PropertyGuru, Asia’s leading online property portal group, the Property Report Congress will include sponsors exhibits, plenary sessions, industry overview and outlook, international networking session and lunch, keynote addresses, and a 30-minute intensive workshop.
It will be immediately followed by the 4th Philippines Property Awards 2016 gala dinner and awards ceremony, where the best developers and developments in the Philippines will be rewarded.
